1) Which nationalities are allowed to enter the EWAA competition?

We do not wish to expand (full scale) Internationally. Our aim is to link East and West. East means Far East (Japan, China, South Korea etc.) and South East Asia (Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia etc.) and West means UK and other European countries including France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Finland etc. and USA. So, any artists and art students who live or are studying in those countries are eligible to enter the competition. We also allow artists with these nationalities but live in other countries to enter.

2) How many entries may I submit? Do I have to fill in a separate form for each entry?

Both artists and art students are able to register up to five entries per person. You can enter different categories. A discount for three entries is given so we recommend registering a minimum three works which will increase the chance of being selected. Also if you enter more than three works we will provide you with a Profile Page free (normally value £65, see question 10 for details).

3) What is the Procedure and Timetable after registration?

Please visit Regitration (Inscription) page and follow the step-by-step procedure.

--> All short listed overseas finalists have to prepare for shipping the work to London --> Send or deliver the work to pre-arranged address in UK or deliver the work to the gallery directly on 20 October (Sun, 11:00am -1:00pm) --> the Exhibition starts on 22 Oct (Tue) --> Private view and Opening party will be held on 22 Oct.(6:30pm-9:00pm) --> Announcement of all winners followed by Award Ceremony on 24 Oct.(6:30pm - 9:00pm) --> Close the Exhibition on 26 Oct (Sat.12:00 noon) --> Collect your work from the gallery (Sat.12:00-2:30pm) if delivered the large work.

4) Regarding the category, what is difference between 2D-1 and 2D-2? And what is contemporary-II?

Entries to 2D category are always the largest in all categories. So we have divided 2D with two sections and 2D-I is for normal 2D and one original work made by hand such as painting, drawing, mixed media etc. and 2D – II is a work produced with help of non-hand methods such as print making, wood cutting, etching, computer graphic etc. 2D-II works are also copiable.

Contemporary-II is a work created by unconventional methods, technique and expression such as installation, conceptual art as well as 2D / 3D works, photography and video.

5) Can I submit old works?

Yes, you are allowed to submit old work if it was produced within the past five years and has not been awarded any prize previously.

6) How should I fill out the registration form and how do I pay?

Use the online registration form which you can find on our official web-site. Type in your information and select from the drop down menu and submit. After registration, go back to Registration page and click Pay Now button which opens the payment form and you can pay by Paypal. We will accept payment only by Paypal but if you live in the UK, you can pay by bank transfer or via Internet banking. Paypal is one of the cheapest and safest ways to pay the fees and even if you have never used Paypal before you will find it very easy to register and send money.

At Paypal’s web-site, there is a step-by-step guide,‘How to send money’ in your native language.

7) If I register early what will be the benefits?

If you register more than three entry works before the end of February you can participate in our event ‘Art for sale for a charity’ free of charge. If we sell your work you can donate 20% of the selling price and keep 70% for yourself. You will also be given a Profile Page (self homepage builder) free (subject to T & C). It will take time to get familiar with editing Profile Page so the sooner to start the better. You can transfer your final entry work package to our judge’s selection site from your Profile Page directly until end of May and you are not allowed to use this method after 1 June.

8) How can I pay the entry fees by Paypal or credit card?

You can pay the fees by PayPal as well as by credit card but Paypal is safer. Paypal is one of the most well known credit card payment collecting companies and their service can be used in many countries including Japan, South Korea and China. So when you have time please sign up ( free) at Paypal and register your credit card, e-mail and password which will make you easier when you pay the entry fees. You can find Paypal web-site by Google search.

If you wish to pay your entry fees -> go to Registration page and click ‘Pay Now’ button -> Fill in Entry Payment Form and  click 'View cart'  button to check your payment. -> If everything is OK click 'Proceed to checkout' button -> Then you can choose whether to make one-off payment by your credit card or by Paypal and if you wish to pay by Paypal just log in and they can pay for you. It is very simple and safe. If you wish to pay by credit card just fill in all details of your credit card and pay. We will not accept other methods of payment except for UK artists.

9) Is there any size limitation for entry works?

If you can deliver your work to the gallery on 21 Oct (Sun) between 11:00am and 1:00pm directly and collect it on 27 th between 12:00 and 3:00pm then you can enter large work but maximum width = 1.5m. If you send to our pre- arranged address by courier or deliver, the outside box of 2D work must be (width + height + depth = within 1.60m). The size of 3D work should be width + height + depth = within 90cm.

10) What is the "Profile Page"?

If you enter more than three works for the competition we will provide you with a Profile Page free (subject to T & C). If you enter one or two works, you can have Profile Page at a discount price (£25, normally value £50). The Profile Page is like your Home Page and you can produce it by yourself with an online manual. If you have your own web-site you can link to it from your Profile Page. If you enter the EWAA competition you can transfer your final entry package to judge’s selection site from your Profile Page directly. We will also link to your Profile Page from each of your entry work which will enable our judges to see entrants' background when they assess their entry work. However, to have a Profile Page is not required condition for entering EWAA competition and Profile Page will not affect judge’s ultimate selection.

All Profile Pages will be listed and introduced at 'East-West Artists Online Directory' which we promote worldwide.

11) Do I have to pay for the Finalists’ Exhibition if selected?

If your entry work(s) get through the 1st selection (online by our judges), you are eligible to exhibit (Finalists’ Exhibition) at La Galleria in Pall Mall, central London free except shipping and delivering costs of your work (see T & C). We will pay for hiring the gallery, advertising, printing and party costs etc. but you have to pay all delivery or shipping costs of your work including insurance if necessary.

12) How can I submit my photo work for entry and the Final ists' Exhibition if selected?

You can submit one shot or a set of maximum 5 photos as a series or a story. If you transfer from your Profile Page you can make a photo : 72 resolution, 550 pixels (height) x 650 pixels (width). If your photo's width or height is shorter than this you should add white space to make up to this size otherwise it deforms. For the Finalists' Exhibition, if your work is for a series you can exhibit one main photo plus small extra photos (ask EWAA for more details). The size of photo for the exhibition should be the same as 2D work (maximum outside box size total (width + height + depth = within 160cm). All photo works must be framed with a glass (or clear plastic) front cover.

13) How can I submit my 3D work for entry and the Finalists' Exhibition if selected?

For entry, you should submit at least 2-5 photos of your 3D work. One is for main shot and others are from different angles or close up shots in order for our judges to see your work as real as possible. If you transfer your final entry work package from your Profile Page, you should edit images as 72 resolutions with 550 pixels height x 650 pixels width (including white space if necessary). Please see the online manual of Profile Page. If you do not have your Profile Page our designer will do this for you. For the Finalists' Exhibition if you are selected, you should send the work in a box: maximum total 90 cm (height + width + depth). So your 3D work should be smaller than this size.

14) How can I submit my installation work for entry and the Finalists' Exhibition if selected ?

Because of the limited space of the gallery, you cannot exhibit your real installation there. So for entry, you should show your installation with maximum 5 photos and one drawing, statement and video (within 5 minutes) if available. Please use Profile Page to create your final entry package and transfer it to our selection site. If you do not have your Profile page, just submit large images as our designer will do this for you. For Final Exhibition if selected, you should produce a 2D presentation panel to which you can stick photos, statement and drawing to explain about your installation work. The size of the presentation panel should be the same as 2D work: outside box size total should be within160 cm (height + width + depth). The finalists of Installation work are also allowed to display a part or material of the installation at the gallery. However these 3D materials have the same size limitation as 3D work.

15) How can I submit my video / animation work for entry and the Finalists' Exhibition?

For the entry, please upload your video to Vimeo (the length must be within 5 minutes). They can encode your video and provide you with embedded codes which you can copy and send to us. Then we we will link from your entry work to the Vimeo so our judges can watch your video through Vimeo. If you have your Profile Page you can produce your final video entry package by yourself. For the Finalists' Exhibition, you should provide AVI or Quick Time formatted video file with DVD or upload such a file to Mega-Size File Transfer Service which we can download from them. You can find many such services through Google and normally it is free of charge.

16) Can I sell my submitted works to visitors at the exhibition?

Of course you can but please do so through us. We believe it will be easier and beneficial for you to let us deal with tax and other complicated issues. When we have customers who wish to purchase your works, we will inform you accordingly. In the case of successful sales we will take a 20% commission on customer's purchase price.

17) If selected, do I have to put a frame in my work for the Finalists’ Exhibition?

If your selected work is photography, you have to put a frame with glass or clear plastic front cover. If your selected work is 2D you can decide whether to exhibit with or without a frame. For a small work you should put a frame which looks better

18) Can I display my work at the gallery by myself if selected?

No, you have to leave it to us as to where or how your work is displayed. However, we will ask each exhibitor to indicate in writing preferences for display beforehand and we will try our best but it is impossible to make every exhibitor happy and I am sure you will understand this.

19) Is there any disqualification?

Yes, if you send us or deliver larger size of work than we specified or you cannot deliver your work to the gallery on specified date and time you will be disqualified to exhibit even if you were selected for the finalists. Also if we found out your work has political, religious, sexual or such nature which may give people with a wrong impression about EWAA competition we reserve the right to decline your application at our own discretion.
